Dolores LeOrene Simmons' Obituary
Dolores L. Patterson Simmons, 65, moved to her heavenly home on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 where a crown was most certainly waiting for her as her reward for a life well lived and loved.
Dolores was born March 13, 1956 to W.J. and Fliptian Patterson in Shamrock, TX. She spent her life in Wheeler County growing up on the Lott Ranch and then graduating Wheeler High School in 1974. She married her husband of 46 years, Weldon, on July 10, 1975. Their marriage saw their beloved daughter, Jotana, born in December, 1982.
Dolores not only loved and served Jesus with her whole heart, she saturated others with that agape love everywhere she went. She was a member of the First Baptist Church Mobeetie. Many young children were first introduced to Jesus sitting at her feet in preschool Sunday School. Others across the nation learned of Jesus as she served on mission teams spreading the gospel by serving in the kitchen or the classroom.
Dolores was always game for fun! She enjoyed card and board games, playing with all the kids and making even the little things a blast. Kids were always a joy for her and she stayed involved in all the kid activities through the years. She was the best cheerleader and encourager. Late night chat sessions eating lemons, limes and pickles with her kids were treasures. Yearly highlights for kids include coloring Easter eggs by the hundreds with Lorse.
She was known far and wide for her magnificent cooking skills. No one ever went hungry with her near. Her cobblers, meatloaf, sweet corn, and Christmas candies were world class champions. Not only did she feed your belly, she fed your soul with her joy and love. The joy within her spilled out in the best laugh! Jotana says the greatest lessons her momma taught her and her children was to face everything with laughter and to find the humor in every circumstance. Dolores knew the joy of her Lord was her strength. Everyone knew they could count on Lorse to find the funny. She also enjoyed making everyone else laugh. Her comedy skits may not have won any awards, but she could make the room erupt in laughter and that was enough award for her.
Dolores was always ready to go on the next adventure. Whether to a sporting event, rodeo, cruise, or just a drive, she was up for the next fun thing. She would try just about anything once and however it went, she found the funny and laughter usually ensued.
Her grandchildren brought the most joy to her every single day. A’Dyn loved everything about Lorse and especially her cooking. He laughed that no matter who showed up to the table, there was always enough to feed the whole town. She was their person and they were her people! She was so proud of each of them for being just who they were and loved cheering them along.
Those left to cherish her sweet and joyful spirit are her daughter, Jotana Henson and TA Taylor. The Grandest Grands- Kellan Quarles, Kayleigh Coomer, A’Dyn Garza and Ty Taylor. Brother Tim Patterson (Terrie). In laws, Steve Simmons (Suzy), Deleise Atwood (Riley), and Walter Simmons (Phyllis). 4 Nieces and 4 Nephews and their children who all held a sweet spot in her heart. A host of extended family and of course “Lorsie’s Kids” who are too numerous to count.
Services will be held Sunday, September 19, 2021 at 3:00pm at First Baptist Church Mobeetie. Pastors Jim Zenger and Travis Leamon officiating. Burial will follow in Wheeler Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Riding High Ministries PO Box 402 Shelley Idaho 83274
