Delma was born July 31, 1936 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Delma Susan Rowlan Andrews. After her mother’s passing in 1939, Delma was raised by her beloved parents, Faye and Ray Rowlan. Delma grew up on a farm near Rocky, Oklahoma and graduated in 1954 from Lake Valley High School. She attended Southwestern State College in Weatherford and completed her education at Oklahoma City University, where she graduated in 1957 with a degree in education. While at OCU, she met the love of her life, Alvin Ward Wingo, at the United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City. Delma and Al were married on October 11, 1957 in Rocky, Oklahoma, and enjoyed almost 50 years of marriage.
Shortly after the birth of their first child, Alvin Jr., Delma and Al moved to the Dallas area where Delma taught fifth grade. The family moved to Rockwall in 1972 where Delma continued her teaching career for several more years. It was in Rockwall that Al and Delma finished raising their three children while living on Lake Ray Hubbard.
Delma and Al moved to the Shamrock area in 2000 after Al retired from his State Farm Agency in Dallas, and they were members of the First United Methodist Church in Shamrock. Al and Delma hosted many family reunions during their time in Shamrock, a tradition that is still continuing. Al passed away in July of 2005. In 2010, Delma and her beloved dog Tina moved to Amarillo and lived at The Craig Retirement Community for over 15 years. While at The Craig, Delma loved playing Castle with her friends, driving her golf cart, and the camaraderie in the Craig’s cafeteria. In 2025, Delma moved to Graceful Living Group Home, where she enjoyed listening to audio books, especially the Bible, with her friends there. Delma was a member of St. Luke Presbyterian Church in Amarillo.
Delma was an artist. She had a keen eye and couldn’t help but notice things of beauty around her and then recreate them, whether it be in her flower gardens, her numerous creations on canvas, porcelain and ceramic, or in the young lives she nurtured. Her children and grandchildren always knew they were cherished and their homes are full of her creations.
Delma is preceded in death by her husband, Al Wingo; her daughter, Susan Wingo; her great-granddaughter, Scout Wingo; her brothers, Don Andrews and Tommy Andrews; her sisters, Vinnie Lou Sheppard, Ida Faye Glasgow and Shirley Busche.
Survivors include her sons, Alvin Ward Jr. and Teresa Wingo of Forney, Eldon Ray and Kary Wingo of Amarillo; her grandchildren, Keenan and Lauren Wingo of Terrell, Wesley and Alexa Wingo of Amarillo, Tyler and Abby Wingo of Austin and Raven Wingo of Forney; her great-grandchildren, Mila, Lola, Eli, and Claire; brothers Ray Andrews and Brian Andrews and sister Sharon Sweesy, and many beloved nephews, nieces and cousins.
The family would like to express their appreciation to BSA Hospice of the Southwest and Delma’s compassionate caregivers from Goodcare Health Services and Graceful Living.
