Deborah "Debbie" Marie Latham's Obituary
SHAMROCK SERVICES – 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 23, 2012 in Calvary Christian Fellowship Church in Shamrock with Rev. Joe G. Jernigan, officiating. INTERMENT - Shamrock Cemetery in Shamrock. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Shamrock. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 pm Monday at the funeral home. Debbie died on Saturday, October 20, 2012 where she lost her 11 month battle with Cancer in her home surrounded by family, loved ones, and friends. Debbie was born January 21, 1950 in Shamrock to D.W. and Mary Sparkman Rankins. She married Jerry Wayne Latham on August 4, 1967 in Lela Baptist Church. She attended Shamrock Schools and graduated in 1968 from Shamrock High School. For 19 years, she worked with Jerry Wayne on various family businesses and endeavors and raised their two daughters, Tammy and Tanya. After Jerry Wayne’s untimely death in 1986, Debbie continued to work and raise her daughters. She attended Nursing School at West Texas A&M University in 1992 and graduated with a B.S. in Nursing in 1996. She then received her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Phoenix in 2005. She served as a Nurse at the Shamrock Nursing Home, Wheeler Nursing Home, and the Veterans Affairs (VA) Hospital and Nursing Home in Amarillo where she retired as the Associate Chief of Education in December 2011. PRECEDED IN DEATH BY – her husband, Jerry Wayne Latham on June 4, 1986; Grandson, Kenneth James Daughtry III, on October 7, 1991; and her father, DW Rankins on February 8, 2006. SURVIVORS – 2 daughters, Tammy Marie Sorenson and husband Edwin of Saskatchewan, Canada and Tanya Michelle Larkin and husband, Dustin of Pampa, Texas; her grandchildren, Keana Marie Daughtry of Pampa, Texas; LaKeisha Diane Applewhite and husband Matt of Sweetwater, Oklahoma; Latham James Daughtry of Wheeler, Texas, and Brody Allan and Sydney Ellen Larkin of Pampa, Texas; her great grandchildren, Teagan Nicole and Brooklynn Grace Applewhite of Sweetwater, Oklahoma; her mother, Mary Marie Rankins of McLean Care Center in McLean Texas; her brother, Gary Alan Rankins and wife Linda Rankins of Amarillo Texas; 3 step grandchildren, Tamara Duncan of Alberta, Canada, Preston Sorenson of Alberta Canada, and David Sorenson of Saskatechewan, Canada; 2 step great grandchildren, Katherine Duncan and Soren Firby; many brothers and sisters in law, cousins, nephews, and nieces. MEMORIALS - The family request memorials be sent to the Harrington Cancer Center in Amarillo. The family will be at 409 South Wall in Shamrock.
