C.P. "Pete" Barnes' Obituary
CLAUDE GRAVESIDE SERVICES - 10:30 AM Saturday, December 8, 2012 at the Claude Cemetery with Rev. Dick Gravley, Pastor of First Baptist Church of Claude, officiating. INTERMENT- will be in Claude Cemetery in Claude. Arrangements are by Robertson Armstrong Chapel. C.P. “Pete” Barnes was born December 22, 1931 in Dilley, Texas to Henry and Minnie Lee Barnes. He attended Dilley High School and Junior College at Schriener Institute, a military academy in Kerrville. Pete joined the US Navy and served aboard the Battle Ship Iowa throughout the Korean Conflict. After his honorable discharge, Pete went to work for the Traylor Cattle Co of San Antonio. He worked on ranches from south Texas to northern New Mexico. While in New Mexico, he met and married Betty Phillips on December 21, 1956 in Las Vegas, NM. Pete hired on with the Santa Fe Railway in August 1958 and achieving the position of Road Master, he retired in 1988. Together they moved to Claude in 1976, where Pete lived the remainder of his life. In his past times, Pete enjoyed working with, carving, and building things of wood. PRECEDED IN DEATH BY - his parents; 4 brothers, and 3 sisters. SURVIVORS – his wife, Betty Barnes, of Claude; his son, Clifford Barnes and wife Tracy, of Garden City, Texas; 3 daughters, Alison Paetzold and husband David, of Amarillo, Kathy Barkley and husband Rick, of Gruver, and Sheila Rae Irons and husband Kevin, of Forney; his sister-in-law, Doris Barnes of San Antonio; 11 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren. MEMORIALS - The family request memorials be sent to First Baptist Church of Claude or Claude EMS.
