Cora Margaret Phelps' Obituary
Cora “Margaret” Phelps peacefully passed away November 15, 2022.
Services will be held at 10 am, Saturday, November 19th, 2022, at The Chapel at Fairview Cemetery in Memphis, TX.
Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Memphis.
She was born July 09, 1947, to Omas James and Ira Mae Mackey in Quinton, Oklahoma. She spent most of her childhood in Memphis, TX. Her adult life was spent in Amarillo, TX where she worked in housekeeping. Most currently, she worked in housekeeping at Riverfalls Apartments where she ensured that every resident would have an immaculate apartment when they moved in. She would also get to work extra early to ensure the office staff had a clean space to work. The staff at Riverfalls became a second family to her. When Margaret wasn’t working, she enjoyed completing word searches, spending Saturday mornings at Estate and Garage Sales, and spending time with her family. She rarely missed a Cowboy’s football game and would make sure to be home in time to watch them. No matter how mad they made her when they lost, she would still root them on. Even in her final days, she had the nurses and her children scrambling to find the game.
Margaret was a strong, courageous woman, a true survivor. In 2017, she was diagnosed with lung cancer. Not only did she beat the cancer, but she also stayed in remission. Her fighting spirit will live on in her children, grand-children, and great grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, four brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her brother Phillip and his wife Donna Mackey of Memphis, a sister Coetta McMurry of Amarillo; her children Cheryl and Roger Hollan of Canyon, David and Judy Phelps of Amarillo, Susan and Dusty Byars of Lakeview and Gary Phelps of Amarillo; 6 grand-children and 8 great-grandchildren.
