Cody Scott Crockett's Obituary
Cody Scott Crockett was born in Amarillo, Texas on January 9, 1997. He was raised on his family’s ranch outside of McLean, Texas, where he attended school from Kindergarten-12th grade. Cody passed away on Monday, March 6, 2017 at 11:57 p.m.
Services for Cody will be held on Friday, March 10, 2017 at the One Way Church (formerly the First Baptist Church) at corner of First and Kingsley streets in McLean at 2:00 p.m.
Graveside service will follow at the Hillcrest Cemetery in McLean.
Arrangements are being made through Robertson Funeral Directors of McLean.
Family will receive friends for visitation will be held from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
From an early age, Cody loved being with his daddy roping, riding and working cattle. Even as a young boy, his idea of playing was working. Cody loved being around the older cowboys and listening to their stories.
He was day working by the age of 8 with his older brother, Clay, and his daddy. He especially loved getting to day work on school days. Cody could go for days on nothing but peanut butter and Dr. Pepper.
His work ethic was evident from an early age, a strong family trait. He enjoyed responsibility, always seeking opportunities and taking them seriously.
He was well known for his impeccable manners and contagious smile. Cody always had a keen grasp of situations and his common sense prevailed at an early age, a trait that caught the attention of older, more experienced people.
Cody was a loving sibling to his brothers and sisters. He didn’t just love them, he was truly friends with them and honored each of their friendships in many special ways.
Cody was a very passionate leader and especially enjoyed football, always pushing his team mates further, to accomplish more. He earned All Region honors his senior year. He loved playing for Coach Herring, Coach Jurado, Coach Mathis and Coach Kittley. In addition to football, Cody liked competing in ranch rodeos and was a member of several different teams.
His sense of humor was always evident with the ever-present twinkle in his eye and ready grin on his face. No one was safe from his practical jokes, especially his teachers. Longtime friend Destry Magee said “Working with Cody didn’t seem like work at all because he made it so much fun.”
He lived life large and full, savoring each moment. He could walk into a room and instantly own it with his wit and charm. He had an endearing way about him and nobody walked away from a conversation with Cody without a smile on their face. Cody accepted Jesus as his savior when he was in fourth grade and attended the Methodist Church of McLean.
On the day before he turned 18 Cody was offered a job on the Franklin Ranch north of McLean. He has spent the last two years of his life working there, with his days filled with everything he loved: riding, working cattle and roping. He loved his independence and took great pride in his work.
He is survived by his parents, Brock and Kristie of McLean; brother Clay of Canyon; sister Callie and brother Ben of McLean; his maternal grandmother Anita Thompson of Childress; his paternal grandparents David and Dixie Jo Crockett of McLean. Aunts and Uncles Nancy and Curtis Simpson of Childress; Shawn and Billy Bybee of McLean; Juliana and Brad Sadler of Clifton. Cousins Meredith Ochoa of Childress; Seth Simpson of Keystone, CO; Tori Hanauer of McLean; Hayley Burnett of Amarillo; Hunter Burnett of Pampa; Andrew Bybee of Lubbock; and McKinzi Lewis of Clifton. Special friends include: Jack Magee, Syler, Raidyn and Trew Brown, Hayden, Holden, and Hennessy Holwick, Lee and Tammy Callenback.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Bob Thompson of Childress, and his sweet girlfriend Sydney Wallace of Amarillo.
