Charles L. Ballard, 92, died Sunday, August 5, 2018 in Amarillo, Texas.
Graveside Services will be at 4:00 PM Tuesday, August 7, 2018 in Dozier Cemetery, Dozier, TX.
Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Shamrock.
Charles L. Ballard was born August 3, 1926 in Deval, Oklahoma to Charles Ballard and Beulah Mae Burden Ballard. His family moved to Shamrock in 1927. Like many families in that time they moved to California in 1929. The family returned to the Shamrock area in 1936. When they returned he attended Benenite School until starting to Shamrock High in 1940 as a freshman. The family then moved back to California and he enlisted in the Army in 1943. He finished high school and went to college after he returned from World War II.
Mr. Ballard’s military awards include the Silver Star Medal, two Bronze Star medals, two Purple Hearts with Combat Gold Stars, Combat Infantryman’s Badge with one star and numerous campaign and service medals.
He married Madge Thurman on April 7, 1993 in Bullhead City, AZ. She preceded him in death on October 6, 2017.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife and a son, Danny Ballard.
Survivors: Son-Anthony Ballard; step-son Terry Tidalgo; daughter-Mary Lou Hoffner; step-daughter Linda Tidalgo; 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren
