Cecil Pierce's Obituary
Cecil Pierce of Wheeler, TX passed away Monday, March 25, 2024 at the age of 85 in his home in Wheeler. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 am Thursday, March 28, 2024 at the Wheeler Methodist Church, with Rev Leonard Gonzales officiating, assisted by Mike Hulon. Burial will follow at the Wheeler Cemetery. Viewing will be from 9:00 AM until 6:00 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Cecil was born September 6, 1938 in Wheeler, TX to Marvin Wesley Pierce and Mary Megee Pierce. He graduated from Wheeler High School in 1957 and attended Amarillo Junior College before marrying Nancy Lee in 1958. Cecil was co-owner and operator of Lee Hardware and Furniture for 40 years until he sold the store in 1996. He then retired to become a full time Farmer/Rancher and loved raising Angus cattle.
Cecil served on the Board of the Wheeler Chamber of Commerce, The City Council, The Wheeler County Appraisal/Review Board, and Wheeler School Board. He served as President of the Wheeler County Farm Bureau Board of Directors and on the Board of Trustees of the First National Bank of Wheeler. Cecil was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Methodist Church, where he served on numerous boards. He was also a Veteran, serving in the National Guard and the Reserves.
He loved keeping up with his grandkids following the baseball team, helping with Boy Scouts, and even attending a few Sorority Events. Cecil and Nancy celebrated 65 years of marriage on August 17, 2023. He was a very proud Dad and Grandad supporting everyone in anything they did regardless of where or when, he could always be counted on to be there. Whenever asked a question, his answer was “Welp, it depends on the weather.”
Cecil was preceded in death by his parents; and 2 sisters, Katie Whitson and Ada Broyles, both of Amarillo.
Cecil is survived by his wife, Nancy of the home; 2 daughters, Myranda Pierce of Enid, OK and Kristi Pierce of Lubbock, TX; 3 grandchildren, Bradan Pierce of Oklahoma City, OK and his fiancé Kalynn Schwandt of Oklahoma City, OK, and Brady Pierce and Audrey Pierce, both of Lubbock TX; 2 sisters, Patricia Boyd of Kansas City, MO, and Wanda Gann and husband, Larry of Fort Worth, TX; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
