C. Carey Stephenson's Obituary
AMARILLO, formerly of CLAUDE FUNERAL SERVICES - 10:00 am Monday, August 26, 2013 in the First United Methodist Church in Claude with Rev. Don Travis, officiating. INTERMENT- will be in Claude Cemetery in Claude. Arrangements are by Robertson Armstrong Chapel of Claude. Carey was born March 27, 1922 in Claude, Texas to Clarence Carey and Ida Stewart Stephenson. He married the late Velma Dean Farrell on May 10, 1947 at Waco, Texas. He was a B-17 co-pilot with the US Army Air Corps in WWII. Carey had farmed for himself and had worked at Pantex as a Metrologist for many years. Mr. Stephenson had lived most of his life in the Claude and Armstrong Co. area, but in 1999 he had moved to Amarillo. While living in Armstrong County, he had been a member of the Claude Volunteer Fire Department and served as Fire Marshall, was on the Claude City Council, taught Sunday School and was the treasurer for the Claude First United Methodist Church, was a member of the 55 Plus Club, and served as a school board member for the Goodnight School. Carey also enjoyed baseball, fishing, and the outdoors. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Claude. PRECEDED IN DEATH BY - his parents; his wife, Velma in January 2004; 3 brothers, Sam, Marvin, and Glen Stephenson; and by an infant sister. SURVIVORS – 2 sons, Dee Herring and wife Pat of Amarillo, David Stephenson and wife Rhonda of Canyon; 2 daughters, Linda Jacquez of Clovis, NM, Louise Moore and husband Jack of Vega; a sister-in-law, Ruth Stephenson; a brother-in-law Charles Farrell and wife Janelle of Cleburne; 12 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. MEMORIALS - The family request memorials be sent to Claude Volunteer Fire Department or Claude EMS. The family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday, August 25, 2013 from 3:00-5:00 pm
