CLARENDON SERVICES - 11:00 am Wednesday, January 16, 2013 in the First United Methodist Church in Clarendon with Rev. Lloyd Stice, pastor, and C.W. Parker, Odyssey Hospice Chaplain, officiating. INTERMENT – Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon. C.L. was born on October 7, 1910 in Brice, Texas to Custis Lee and Bertha Hudson Benson, Sr. After moving from Brice at age 8, he attended Clarendon College Academy, where students from primary through college attended school. He married Avis Lee McElvany on December 24, 1941 in Clarendon. C.L. was an avid farmer and devoted his life to it. He served on the Hall and Donley County Water Conservation District Boards and served on the Clarendon CISD School Board. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clarendon.
PRECEDED IN DEATH BY - his parents; wife, Avis Lee Benson on October 15, 1981; and a brother H.L. Benson. SURVIVORS – 2 daughters, Judy Cornell and husband John of Bonita Springs, Florida, Jill Finch and husband Richard of Valley Mills, Texas; a sister Susan LaTrice “Susie” Benson Bell Kent of Clarendon, Texas; 2 nieces, Janice Benson Martin and Jacquie Bell Spencer; a nephew, Bernie Benson; 4 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren. MEMORIALS - The family request memorials be sent to Odyssey Hospice, First United Methodist Church in Clarendon, or to any organization in Clarendon.
