Burl Warner Brunson's Obituary
CLAUDE
SERVICES - 10:00 am on Friday, December 5, 2008 in the Claude Church of Christ with Alfred White, officiating.
INTERMENT - with Masonic Rites by Claude Masonic Lodge # 719, AF&AM & United States Air Force honors in Claude Cemetery in Claude.
Warner was born May 12, 1918 in Armstrong County to Thomas & Clara Mae Luttrell Brunson. He married M.E. Bagwell on May 14, 1939 in Groom. Warner was a lifelong resident of Claude except for his years of service in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He was shot down in a B24 near Budapest Hungary and became a POW and imprisoned at Stalag Luft IV, Poland. At the end of the war he was force marched 893 kilometers in to Germany where he was liberated on April 26, 1945. After World War II, Warner retured to Claude and worked with his father in the family service station. Later he worked for Farmer’s Co-Op and the began managing of Cavin’s Lumber Yard and after closing the yard he moved to the First National Bank in Claude where he retired as Vice President. Warner was always heavily involved in his community. He was a member of the Claude Church of Christ, Past President of the Claude Lions Club, and had been a longtime member of the Claude Volunteer Fire Department where he obtained the rank of Assistant Chief. He was also a Past Master of Claude Masonic Lodge # 719, AF&AM, Past Commander of the American Legion Post as well as Past Commander and life member of the Amarillo Chapter of Prisoners of War and Disabled American Veterans. Warner was dearly loved and will be sorely missed.
PRECEDED IN DEATH BY - his parents, Thomas and Clara Mae Brunson; his wife, M.E. on July 30, 2006; sisters, Verna McElroy and Gladys Breedlove; brothers, George, Charles, and Frank Brunson; and a grandson, Billy George.
SURVIVORS - a daughter, Marlene George and husband Phillip of Las Vegas, NV; a grandson, Phillip George II of Amarillo; 3 great grandchildren, Garrett George, Grace George, and Gaige George, all of Amarillo; and many nieces and nephews.
MEMORIALS - The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Claude EMS, Claude Volunteer Fire Department or a favorite charity.
Viewing will be held from 10am-6pm Thursday in Claude.
