Boyd N. Austin's Obituary
Boyd N. Austin of Wheeler, TX passed away on Friday, June 16, 2023 in Wheeler at the age of 96 years, 1 month and 20 days. Graveside Services with Masonic Rites and Military Honors will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at Kelton Cemetery in Kelton, TX with Rev. Rodney Weatherly officiating.
Viewing will be held at the funeral home in Wheeler on Monday, June 19 from 9:00 AM- 6:00 PM with family receiving friends from 4:00 - 6:00 PM.
Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Wheeler.
Boyd was born on April 27, 1927 in Shamrock, TX T.J. and Emma Cora (Beaty) Austin. He was the middle of 5 children and was the only boy. The family moved to Kelton when he was six years old. He graduated from Kelton High School and entered the U.S. Marines. After completing basic training, he served briefly at Camp LeJeune, at which time the war ended. He left and returned to Kelton. He was married to Eula Rae Jackson for a brief time. He worked for the Kelton Gin, then went to welding school in Troy, OH. After welding school, Boyd moved to Pampa, TX and worked for Cabot Fabricators. He married Theda Louise Condo on April 24, 1949 in Wellington, TX. She preceded him in death on December 6, 1996. He later married Pearl Teague, who also preceded him in death.
Boyd and his brother-in-law started A & K Welding and Blacksmithing in Wheeler. He operated the business until his retirement in 1998. He previously attended Kelton Baptist Church, enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid gardener. One of his favorite things to do was to invent anything mechanical. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Pampa and Wheeler and served many years on the Wheeler Volunteer Fire Department.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 wives, Theda and Pearl; his 4 sisters, Dealva Miller, Alice Lister, Juanita Kenney and Alta Mae Scott; and 1 great grandson, Tyler Cobb.
Survivors include his son, Lynn Austin and wife, Deanna, of Fritch, TX; his daughter, Lois Puryear and husband, Harvey, of Wheeler; 5 grandchildren, Wesley Puryear, Rodney Puryear, Shelli Cobb, Shane Austin and Jason Austin; 4 great grandchildren, Clayton Cobb, Conner Cobb, Gabby Austin and Henry Puryear; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Wheeler Volunteer Fire Department.
