Bonnie Elrea Crofford's Obituary
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm on Thursday, May 9th at Robertson’s Funeral Home, 212 Sully Street, Clarendon, Texas.
Viewing will be at South Georgia Baptist Church, 5209 South Georgia Street, Amarillo, Texas, from 9:00-10:00 am, on Friday, May 10, 2019, followed by funeral services at 10:00 am. Burial will be at Citizen’s Cemetery in Clarendon, Texas at 2:00 pm.
Bonnie Drake Crofford was born in Cotton Center, Texas on January 27, 1928, to George and Arah Phillips Drake. She attended school at Cotton Center, Canyon, and Clarendon. She graduated from Clarendon High School in May 1946. In April before graduation, she met a handsome soldier, F.G. Crofford. It was love at first sight and they were married on June 8, 1946. She worked various jobs during the next few years. On November 25, 1952, she and F.G. welcomed twin girls, Karen and Sharon.
Bonnie was an outstanding seamstress and her handwork was impeccable. She sewed for her family as well as the public for many years. She also made beautiful Christmas stockings, place mats and centerpieces for nieces, nephews, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends. Her handwork will be cherished for generations to come.
She had a witty sense of humor and was always quick with a comeback. She had many sayings that the grandchildren lovingly called “Grannieisms”.
She loved a good game of golf. She even made a hole in one on July 4, 1988. She was club champion at Clarendon Country Club several years.
In 1970, she decided to complete her college degree. She graduated From West Texas State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She loved teaching! Although her teaching career was short lived, she made a huge impact on the lives of many students.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, F.G. Crofford, her parents, George and Arah Drake, and 4 sisters, Juanita Drake, Nell Cornell, Ruth Jackson, and Janice Washington.
She is survived by two daughters, Karen Floyd and husband Jimmy of Amarillo, Sharon Mills and husband Mike of Amarillo, five grandchildren: Kristi Reed (Frank) of Benbrook, Kimberli Phillips (John) of Amarillo, Cassie Angeley (Wade) Littlefield, Kyle Mills (Jenny) Celina, and Jason Floyd (Samantha) Amarillo. She is also survived by 14 great grandchildren: Bryant Young, Brenna Young, Mikayla Phillips, Grant Phillips, Brae Mills, Keigan Mills, Dylon Redman, Bradyn Redman, Kambree Angeley, Trenton Angeley, Tracen Angeley, Landyn McKay, Paizley Floyd, and Rhett Floyd. She is also survived by one sister, Sandy Patrick (David), one brother, Kenneth Drake (Mary), a sister-in law, Margie Phillips (Red) of Amarillo, a brother-in-law, J.C. Washington, many nieces and nephews, and a multitude of friends.
