Bobby was born in Wheeler to Ernie and Pearl Whitten on June 26, 1946 and graduated from Shamrock High School. Bobby was part of the 4th Infantry Division serving in Vietnam under the United States Army, serving from November 23, 1965 until honorable discharge on August 31, 1967. Bobby received several medals of honor during his service.
Bobby and Louise were married 34 years until her passing in 2021. Bobby and Louise spent countless hours serving not only one another but also the community of Shamrock and their church home. Bobby’s passion was veterans. Due to his service in Vietnam, he understood how important it was to honor and serve those that sacrificed so much for our freedom. The Veterans Memorial in Shamrock was a dream of his for years which has now become a reality thanks to all the hard work by his team of friends. There is much more that still needs to be done but because of Bobby and the vision he had, Shamrock will have a beautiful memorial honoring Veterans. Bobby was a welder by trade and could build anything which included the home that he and Louise built together. Bobby was hardworking, generous, fiercely protective, faithful and loved deeply.
He was preceded in death by his wife Louise, his parents, Ernie and Pearl Whitten, his brothers, Joe Whitten and Dale Whitten and his sisters, Jeanne Parker and Eloyse Whitson.
His survivors include many family and friends that loved him and will miss him dearly. He is also survived by his faithful companion, Max which will miss going for his morning car rides.
