Bob was born in Jacksboro, TX on September 9, 1944 to Arthur Andy and Addie Lilly (Castle) Swift. He joined the Army National Guard in 1967, serving until 1971. Over the years, he worked in the oil and gas industry and for Wheeler County; however, Bob’s favorite career by far was hauling cattle, working for Roy Waters in his early teens. He went on to lease his own cattle truck and worked for K Ray Armstrong for over 4 decades.
Bob met the love of his life, Zodell Ellington in 1968 when she ran out of gas on the side of the road, with him coming to her aid. Bob and Zodell were married later that year on November 15th. She often tells the story of how she almost did not go through with the wedding, looking over at him and saying you are just too good. But God put them together and she had found the love of her life and best friend. Together they built a life and love most only dream of. They raised three children together. Then in 1984, Bob became known as Bebah, when his first grandchild was born. His passion laid in his legacy and the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren he and Zodell raised. Bob loved sitting on the porch, and offering up wisdom and telling stories to anyone who would listen. He was selfless, doing anything for those he loved and even complete strangers. He was the voice of reason, understanding and compassion. He was a gentle giant, providing comfort and support during difficult times. He was also comic relief to any situation with his quick wit. Bob was a provider to those who depended on him. He was a great man, a faith-filled man and a loving man. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Addie (Castle) Swift; a brother, Dub Swift; and two granddaughters, McKaylee Swift and Brittany Hathaway.
He is survived by his wife, Zodell Swift of Wheeler; one sister, Wanda Childress of Briscoe, TX; two brothers, Roy Swift and wife Jane, Glen Swift and wife Kelly, all of Eastland, TX; Three children, Laccy Patterson and husband Clay of Seymour, TX, Shannon Swift of Amarillo, and, Ty Swift and wife Chris of Mobeetie, TX; Six grandchildren, Devin Cantwell and wife Jennifer, London Kolp and husband Curtis, all of Amarillo, Cole Hathaway of Ardmore, OK, Aspen Hathaway of Wheeler, Kaycee Crites and husband Wesley of Mobeetie and Will Patterson of Seymour; Twelve great grandchildren, Breaunna Murrell and husband Tevyn, Paisely and Nolan Cantwell, Davis and Reese Kolp, Kaizen Payne, Benjamin and Christian Hathaway, Braxton, Aveline and Lillian Ramirez and Sawyer Crites; and one great-great grandchild, Oakley Murrell.
