Billy Joe Kimes' Obituary
Billy Joe "BJ" "Gizmo" Kimes, 74, of Lakeview, Texas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 23, 2026.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation and arrangements are under the care of Robertson Funeral Directors of Memphis.
BJ was born on January 25, 1952, in Fairview, New Mexico. On July 1, 1979, he married the love of his life, Janet Lou Powell, and together they shared many years of marriage.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janet Kimes; his parents, Herman Kimes, and Bill and Maxine Clark; his brothers, Martin Lee Huffman and Paul Huffman; and his sister, Cleo Clark.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, B'Randa Bennett and husband John, and Coerena Tate; his brothers, Leo Clark and Hoyt Huffman and wife Eileen; his grandchildren, Sasha, Cordell, Brooklynn, Jeremy, and Jamee; his great-grandchildren, Blake and Derrick; along with numerous extended family members and dear friends.
BJ loved spending time outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Much of his life was spent behind the wheel of a big rig, where he embraced the open road and the trucking life he loved. He will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, his love for his family, and the friendships he made along the way.
As fellow truckers would say, "Keep it sunny side up on the streets of Heaven, ol' man."
His family will always smile when remembering one of his favorite sayings: "Damn, that bird dog did me in."
Though he will be deeply missed, the memories he created and the love he shared will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
