Billie F. Waites Byars, a lifelong resident of Memphis, passed away December 18, 2016. Billie was born March 18, 1927 in Plaska to James Elmer and Olas (Gardenhire) Murdock. She attended school in Memphis where she graduated in 1944. Billie married Wesley O. Waites on June 2, 1944 and made their home in Memphis. Wesley farmed and worked at the post office and Billie was the chief operator at GTE for over 28 years. On August 7, 1986, Billie married Emmett L. Byars. They continued to make their home in Memphis. Billie enjoyed playing the piano and directing the choir at Travis Baptist Church where she had been a charter member. Her creative talents were also shown in her crocheted afghans and oil paintings. Billie enjoyed playing golf and spending time with her family and friends.
Billie was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Wesley O. Waites and Emmett L. Byars, one son Larry Don Waites and one granddaughter, Andrea Lynn Waites.
SURVIVORS –Billie is survived by her son James (Jim) Waites and his wife Kathleen of Weatherford, OK; grandsons Michael Waites of Tulsa, OK and Matt Waites and his wife Suzanne of Blair, OK; 3 great grandchildren, Tyler Waites, Emily Waites, and Ali Waites; step children Dean and Nawanda (Byars) Fuller of Boerne, and Larry Byars of Georgetown; step grandchildren Deidre and her husband Russ Schultz of Colcord, OK, Dena and her husband Josh Redd of Boerne, Tim Byars of Stillwater, OK, and Tammy Byars of Wichita Falls; and 11 step great grandchildren.
