SERVICES: 11:00 AM Friday, March 11, 2016 in the First Baptist Church in Wheeler with Rev. Bill Stiles, officiating.
INTERMENT: with Masonic Rites by Shamrock Masonic Lodge # 929, AF & AM will be in Wheeler Cemetery in Wheeler.
Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Shamrock.
The family will receive visitors from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 10 at Robertson Funeral Directors, Shamrock.
Bill was born March 29, 1930 in Zybach to Floyd and Maddie Edwards Atherton. He had been a lifetime resident of Wheeler County. He was a member of Shamrock Masonic Lodge # 929 AF & AM, where he was past Master and a 50 year plus member. He was a custom wheat harvester where he worked from Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, and the Dakotas. He was passionate about the advancement of his community. He also was a Wheeler County Commissioner for Precinct 2 for 18 years. He loved gardening in his 30 acre garden.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers; and an infant daughter, Vivian in 1963.
Survivors: 2 sons, Gregory Atherton and wife Lea of Lexington, Oklahoma and Kennan Atherton and wife Julia of Amarillo; a sister, LaDell Atwood of Pampa; 5 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren.
