Betty Jo Bradford Skipper, 86, of McLean, Texas died Wednesday, September 6, 2023 in Amarillo, Texas.
Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Monday, September 11, 2023 in One Way Church in McLean with Casey Carter, officiating.
Cremation & Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of McLean.
Betty Jo Bradford Skipper was born October 12, 1936 to Arthur Milton Bradford and Lela Cooper Bradford at Walters, Louisiana. She grew up on the family farm at Walters. She attended grades 1-5 at Nebo, Louisiana, then transferred to Block Elementary at Jonesville, Louisiana. She graduated as Valedictorian from Block High School in 1954. She was cheerleader and played all sports in high school.
Betty attended Louisiana Baptist College in Pineville, Louisiana. She taught vacation bible schools during summer breaks. Betty graduated college in 1958 with a B.A. degree in Elementary Education with minors in English and P.E. Betty taught at Tallulah, Lousiana; Nebo, Louisiana; and Jena, Louisiana before coming to teach the rest of her career in McLean, Texas.
Betty married Billy Joe Skipper, Sr. on June 21, 1958. The moved to McLean, Texas in 1959. She taught at McLean Elementary until 1997 when she retired with 36 years. She then substituted for 14 more years serving children for 50 years.
Betty Jo is survived by two daughters, Lela Sue Kennedy of McLean, Texas and Evalee Ann Kincannon and husband Billy Dee of McLean, Texas; one son, Billy Joe Skipper, Jr. and wife Pam of McLean, Texas; three sisters, Wanda Stewart and husband Raymond of Monroe, Louisiana, Bonnie Champlin and husband Tommy of Jonesville, Louisiana, and Judy Champlin and husband Ronny of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; one brother, Ronnie Bradford and wife Pebble of Ferriday, Louisiana; five grandchildren, Derek Kincannon (Patsy), Kelsey Kincannon (Mike), Dusty Moody (Lacey), Trey Skipper (Brooke), and Jessi Harkins (Johnny); eight great grandchildren, Tynlee Tidwell, Jasper Kincannon, Braylon Nutt, Bransyn Nutt, Brazos Nutt, Kenzington Skipper, Kodey Skipper, and Dylan Moody.
Betty Jo was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Joe Skipper, Sr.; her parents, Arthur and Lela Cooper Bradford; three sisters, Daisy Black, Arthurine Carter, and Patsy Bates; one brother, Jimmy Leon Bradford; and one grandson, Garrett Cleve Kennedy.
