Ada Lou Durham's Obituary
Ada Lou Brown Durham, 78, former Groom resident, passed from this life Wednesday, June 19, 2019.
Friends and family will gather to celebrate her life at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at Hillcrest Cemetery, Mc Lean, TX with Thacker Haynes officiating.
Arrangements are under the care of Robertson Funeral Directors of McLean, TX.
Ada was born on August 10, 1940 in Kellerville, TX to Joe Wesley and Beatrice Brown. She grew up in Kellerville,Texas, attending the rural primary school before transferring to Mc Lean High where she graduated in 1958. Ada married Oran Durham on March 27, 1959 in Kellerville, TX. Ada and Oran travelled much of the United States with his job as a pipeline welder. They made their home in Groom, Texas and lived there until moving to Amarillo in 2009. Ada wore many hats over the years, from welder helper to job clerk, and also worked positions at the local hospital and post office. She and Oran owned a welding shop and a local bar for a number of years, where she claimed to have worked as chief cook, bar tender, bouncer and therapist. Ada was an avid gardener and fantastic cook. She gained greatest satisfaction when caring for others, and loved sharing the bounty of both her garden and her kitchen.
Ada was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oran Durham; daughter, Lynn Beal; and grandson, Cody Podzemny.
She is survived by her brother, Dan Brown and husband, Tom of Seattle, WA; daughter, Jo Ann Podzemny and husband, Tim of Canyon, TX; Son-in-law, David Beal of Amarillo; five grandchildren, Dustin Rogers and wife, Amber of Springlake, TX; Deanna Holcomb and husband, Chris; Jessica Hutchens and husband, Hayden; Shaylee Muller and husband, Syfred, all of Amarillo; and Jason Podzemny and wife, Beth of Austin, TX. Ada was blessed by 12 great-grandchildren, and had another on the way. Special love was held for the many friends who became her adopted family from The Arbors. She loved you dearly.
In keeping with her heart of service, the family suggests memorials to a favorite charity, St Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or High Plains Food Bank.
