In grade school Jimmy attended several different places, including Fort Stockton and McCamey, Texas, as well as rural schools such as Rocky Point near Crafton, Texas, and Bugscuffle School, only a few miles from his grandparents’ Home Place near Newport, Texas. He stated that he was one of the last students to graduate eighth grade at Bugscuffle School before it closed. He began ninth grade at Bowie High School, but quit to break horses and do ranch work in the area. He was drafted into the Army in 1951. After boot camp at Fort Lee, Virginia, he was in the 45th Infantry, Field Artillery Batallion, during the Korean War. He served fourteen consecutive months in the battlefields, until his honorable discharge in 1953. He was very, very proud to have served his country. Jimmy married Joe Ann McLane at Woodson, Texas on June 15th, 1957. During his lifetime he worked as an auto mechanic, ranch hand, ranch foreman, custom farmer, painter, and truck driver. His greatest love, besides his Lord and his family, was ranch work; and anyone who knew him well regarded him as a cowboy. He also loved classic country and bluegrass music, and he was willing to travel many miles to hear his favorite bands. Jimmy was baptized into Christ in 1975, and faithfully served the Lord. He proudly served as an elder at the Bellevue, Texas Church of Christ, before his move to Mobeetie. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Roy Dalton Love and James Prochaska; and one sister, Louise (Tiny) Skelton. He is survived by his wife Joe Ann of the home; one son, Wayne Love and wife Barbara Marie; daughters Sheryl Lane and husband Alan; Diane Partlow and husband Rick; Wanda Jo Love and husband Jack Brooks; Barbara Foos and husband Bryan; 11 grandchildren and many precious great grandchildren; three sisters, Leota Shurbet and husband Hoyett, Cookie Cantrell, Jo Ann Cummings; one brother, Sonny Love and wife Judy; many adored nieces & nephews, cousins, dear friends, and other loved ones to whom he was Pappy, whether related by blood or not. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in Jimmy’s memory to Hemphill County Hospice, 1020 South 4th Street, Canadian, TX 79014; or to your local Volunteer Fire Department.
