Jerry Dan Hefley, 77, of Wheeler died Thursday, May 6, 2021 in Amarillo. Services will be 2:00 PM Monday, May 10, 2021 in the Wheeler Area Church of Christ in Wheeler with Britt McCarter, officiating. Burial will follow in Wheeler Cemetery in Wheeler. Viewing will be held from 1:00-6:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Wheeler. Jerry was born November 6, 1943 in Wheeler to Dan and Willie Hefley. He married Carolyn Sue Willoughby on October 26, 1974 in Wheeler. He had been a lifetime resident of Wheeler, where he served as the Wheeler County Tax Assessor-Collector from 1985-1999 and as the Wheeler County Judge from 1999 until his untimely death. He was a huge supporter of all the county fire departments and EMS services. He was heavily involved in the Wheeler County 4-H and was influential in getting the 4-H shooting range started in Shamrock. He loved fishing, cattle ranching, following the local sports teams, guns, and taking his girls shopping. He was a member of the Wheeler Area Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and three sisters. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Hefley of Wheeler; his sons, Justin Hefley and wife Mireille of Amarillo and Kendall Hefley and wife Christian of Wheeler; a sister, Mary Helen Kelley of Belton; his grandchildren, Olivia Hefley, Jaylee Hefley, and Avery Hefley; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family request memorials be sent to any Wheeler County fire department, Wheeler or Shamrock EMS, or Wheeler County 4-H.
