David Oliver Phelps

David Oliver Phelps, 78, passed away December 08, 2021, at his home in Memphis, Tx. Graveside services will be 1:00 PM Monday, December 13, 2021 in Fairview Cemetery in Memphis with Rev. Daniel Downey, officiating. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Memphis. David was born March 11th, 1943, in Memphis, TX to Daris and Mattie Inez Phelps. David grew up in Memphis. He had a wealth of knowledge due to his love for reading the encyclopedia. David was a carpenter for many years. When he wasn’t working in his shop, he was somewhere playing his music. David spent his later years playing music with his friend at Memphis Convalescent Center. The residents looked forward to seeing him on the weekends. David was a US Army veteran and was proud of his service to the country. One of David’s past times was talking, he never met a stranger and could sit about anything. David was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Darrell and Daniel and a sister Juanita. He is survived by his daughters Cheryl Hollan and husband Roger of Amarillo, Susan Byars and her husband Dusty of Memphis, and sons David Phelps and wife Judy of Amarillo and Gary Phelps of Amarillo. He also has 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his best friends Phillip and Donna Mackey of Memphis. David will forever be remembered as a pianist, guitarist, craftsman and friend by many.
