Clayton Rance Shields received his wings on May 5, 2021. To celebrate his life, a Public Graveside Service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 2021 at the Rowe Cemetery in Hedley. Clayton was born on April 1, 1993, in Childress, TX. He grew up in Lelia Lake, TX. While attending school in Clarendon, he enjoyed playing many sports, with football and baseball being his favorites. He was also involved in 4H and Boy Scouts. After receiving his education, Clayton moved to Mineral Wells where he spent his days ranching and training horses. He was also a loved member of the Mineral Wells Church of Christ. Clayton had such a strong work ethic and was determined to excel at any project he began. His talents were unlimited. His projects often included woodworking, leather tooling, and drawing. He put his whole heart into everything he did. Being outdoors brought so much joy to Clayton. He loved riding his bicycle and dirt bike. Most of his childhood was spent at the creek on his Grannie’s property. A couple of his spontaneous expeditions were trying to catch bull frogs and building a tree house. Clayton’s fearless spirit lead him into many fun adventures. His passions were working with horses and making people laugh. He was known for being the light of the room, spreading his contagious, dimpled-smile, and his kind-hearted spirit. Clayton was generous and caring. He loved all of his family and friends dearly. Clayton was greeted in heaven by grandparents, Arthur and Thelma Shields; grandmothers Dimple (Thomas) Baird, and Jo Baird. Those left to cherish his memories include his loving daughter Ariana Shields; grandparents Lawrence and LeDon Baird; parents Melinda Milburn and Billy Milburn of Amarillo and Audie and Sonye Shields of Mineral Wells; two sisters, Madison and husband George Zimmer of Miami and Kameron and Alec Fithen of Lubbock, TX. Also left to cherish his beloved smiles were his nieces and nephews Kelton, Carter, Allison and Charlotte Zimmer and Mason and Linsey Fithen; along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
