On November 11, 2021, Billy Dean Crockett passed away. He was born to Sherman and Avalee Back Crockett in McLean, Texas on April 9, 1941. He graduated from McLean High School in 1959 and attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree on a football scholarship. Later he returned to Weatherford and earned a master’s degree in counseling, and still later, he earned an administrative degree from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. He married Lynna Carter June 25, 1971, in Clarendon, Texas. He is survived by his wife and four children: Joe David Crockett and wife Alisson from Amarillo, Texas, Rusty Crockett and wife Jan from Guthrie, Oklahoma, Kye Harper and husband Shawn from Shamrock, Texas, and Keli Thompson and husband Braden from Panhandle, Texas. He is also survived by his sister Flo Henderson and husband Charles from Borger, Texas and his brother-in-law Steve Carter and wife Tammy from McLean, Texas. He had twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Joe. Bill loved football, music, dogs, and golf. He loved to travel and loved his friends and family. He had a great sense of humor and a reverence for life. He had a sense of right and wrong and never wavered from what he believed was right. He stood for the underdog and had a strong sense of justice. He loved America and was proud America was his country. He was loved by his family and friends and considered himself richer for having them in his life. Memorial services are scheduled for Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Shamrock Church of Christ with Jay Tyree and Casey Carter, officiating. Graveside services will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in McLean. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
